Vodafone's results in 1Q2022

Vodafone Ukraine Group of Companies announces its 1Q2022 results.

The costs associated with the war – emergency work on the network, support for the country and customers, mass migration of customers abroad – significantly affected the dynamics of key financial indicators. The growth in the 1st quarter of 2022 was achieved due to the successful results of the first two months of the quarter.

The Group’s revenue amounted to near 5.2b UAH, which is 10% more than in the same period last year. OIBDA increased by 15% and exceeded UAH 2.9b, the OIBDA margin has grown by 2.6 pp up to 56.7%, which proves business efficiency. The net profit amounted to UAH 515m. The dynamics of the indicator is due to the exchange rate in the 1Q2022, which led to exchange rate gain on the revaluation of Eurobond debt.

There are several growth factors. First, it is the increase in the consumption of data services in January and February. Second is growth in roaming revenue – at the same time roaming services provided free of charge amounted ca UAH 127m. Fixed business revenue and revenue from integration services have positively influenced the growth due to the Vega acquisition.

Vodafone has invested UAH 376m in 1Q2022. The company increased network capacity and provided 4G coverage for the major international highways. From the first war days Vodafone quickly reconnects, maintaining a high level of network stability, more than 90 % of sites are operating.

The russia full-scale invasion war caused mass migration of Ukrainian people abroad, which influenced Q12022 customer base. Vodafone customer base decrease by 0.4m people, mostly in prepaid segment. 1,6m Vodafone subscribers stayed abroad.

In order to help subscribers to keep in touch with relatives in Ukraine, even for those in financial difficulties, Vodafone began providing affordable roaming to its Ukrainian customers in March, which is now available in 27 European countries. The service offers free connection of mobile internet packages, minutes for calls and messages.

Vodafone Ukraine support initiatives since the beginning of the russian invasion. Vodafone supported internal refugees with free services and urgent information. Total amount of free services for Vodafone subscribers reached UAH 230m from the beginning of the war till the end of April, 13m subscribers have used them already. More than 80% of roamers used free services for a total amount over UAH 330m as of end of April, 2022.

Vodafone cooperated with public authorities to inform subscribers about vital issues. Since the beginning of the war, more than 170m information SMS have been sent. Vodafone has transferred over UAH 160m as donations from the beginning of the war until 30th of April.
