Vodafone's results in 2021: growth in the use of data services and new business directions
Vodafone Ukraine Group of Companies announces its 2021 full year results. Vodafone improved its key financial indicators in 2021. The Group’s revenue amounted to 20 billion UAH, which is 11% more than in the last year.
The other Group’s financial indicators also show the steady growth in 2021 compared to the prior year. OIBDA increased by 11% to UAH 10.95 billion. The OIBDA margin is stable – 54.4%. The net profit exceeded by 219% to UAH 3.8 billion. The rapid dynamics of the indicator is due to an increase in revenues from the provision of data services, as well as the strengthening of the hryvnia exchange rate in 2021, which led to exchange rate gain on the revaluation of Eurobond debt.
Vodafone customer base remains stable and reaches 19 million customers. At the same time, there is growth in the segment of contract gross-adds.
The main growth factor was the increase in the consumption of data services due to the expansion of coverage, as well as the development of industrial use of IoT.
Vodafone has maintained the same level of investment in the development of the network. The company invested UAH 3.5 billion in 2021, increase the network coverage up to 84%, first of all, in the villages. As of the beginning of 2022, Vodafone Ukraine also provided 4G coverage for 98% of the length of the 4 major international highways and 80% for all international roads. The Company’s total investments in the construction of high-speed mobile Internet networks totalled 32.3 billion UAH.
4Q2021 highlights:
- In 2021, the company launched a new line of business – Private Networks – private closed telecom networks for corporate clients. In November 2021, Vodafone launched the first Private Network e-LTE at Poltava GOK as part of "Smart Career" joint project with Ferrexpo. The network enables automation solutions for production, which will reduce operating costs, ensure safe mining and the absence of personnel in hazardous areas.
- Another initiative in this direction is Smart Factory 5G – the development of a private technology network (Private Network) 5G, which will integrate mobile devices, production equipment, various control devices and remote and automated control systems. Vodafone Ukraine together with DTEK and Ericsson announced the start of the project in October 2021 and conducted a series of tests of the network's operation in November-December.
- In October 2021, 5G Lab was launched – the first Ukrainian technology platform that demonstrates the work of 5G on Vodafone test network. Here, developers can test innovative developments, solutions, services and devices. The site also presents cases of using 5G, which are successfully working abroad.
- In December 2021, the Vodafone Ukraine Group was recognized as the most transparent Ukrainian company. These are the results of the ESG Transparency Index of Ukrainian companies (ESG Transparency Index 2020). The annual evaluation is conducted by the Professional Association of Corporate Governance (PACU) and the Center for the Development of Corporate Social Responsibility with the support of the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE).
